I just realized: The above comic refers to 3.50 (Enroll Today), whereas my inspiration relates to 3.67 (Yearbook Pictures). I'd be tempted to resequence them just to put Yearbook Pictures in the 3.50 slot, but I definitely want to do Deep Sleep this season, and end the season with Wish You Were Here, and I don't want Deep Sleep directly adjacent to Enroll Today, for much the same reason you cited: It can't be all plot, all the time. Yearbook Pictures is placed where it is to provide a bit of fluff between two more important episodes, but it was previously in danger of being too fluffy. If I hadn't needed a bit of breathing space between Enroll Today and Deep Sleep, I probably would have saved it for my "Loose Threads" project of post-season 7 vignettes. It almost didn't even have a full enough set of internal events to call it a story. Now it does, and it performs a more useful role with regard to the rest of the plot.
Don't worry, I didn't try to turn something fun into something tedious. Yearbook Pictures will still feature all the fluff it previously had. Now it will hold together more coherently, integrate better with established events, and has an internal story of sorts.
Now I'm starting to worry that Enroll Today might be a tad heavy, though. Hopefully, I can get away with a bit of plot meandering. At least I've got a charged ending for it
