Anyone else getting ready for Skyrim?

Post by KingJeremy » Thu Nov 10, 2011 8:14 am

I'm not a big gamer, at least not as much as I used to be. I am however pretty excited for this game. So much so that I am picking up a new computer with a 6 core processor and a gtx 460 video card (friend is building it for me for about $600). I'm not really all that computer savvy but that seems like a good deal for what I'm getting and I'm hoping that I'll be able to play this game on the higher settings with little trouble.

I don't really have anything to play it on, but I'm excited all the same. Skyrim + Skyward Sword = epic month for video games.

It's Elder Scrolls so I'm keen to give it a go, but I never buy games at launch anymore. In a year you'll be able to buy it *mostly* patched and including all the DLC that Bethsoft will inevitably spit out for it at 2/3rds the launch price. Besides, Oblivion and Fallout 3 were both steps backs for their respective franchises, so I'm somewhat wary of Bethesda ATM.

Greetings Fellow ASFRians & Fellow GAMERS!!!!! Damn Straight I placed my 5 dollars down as far back as June! I love RPGS & being a HUGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE DragonAge & DRAGONAGE 2 fan, SKYRIM looks awesome. I do have a question... Since this is an opened world based, is there any set story, or is it more like Fable series? Though I'm more of a fan of sinlge palyer multy-party-based rpgs like Baulders Gate, ICEWIND DALE & DragonAge series I can't wait for this... hehe just 3&1/2 hours till midnight & gaming I'll...as i have tomorrow off. OHHHH Happy Veterans Days to All Vets out there & to all who Support US... I'm a Navy vet. Take care everyone! Your ol Pal PETE#69/ANDROID69

From what I'm hearing, Skyrim is definitely more than a graphical upgrade of Oblivion. It's gonna have dual wielding, spell-combining, this whole "dragon powers" system that has something to do with your character being part dragon or something, a more organic world, and OH MY GOD HAVE YOU SEEN THE DRAGONS?

ANDROID69, there's definitely a set story, but many gamers find it very easy to ignore the main quest in Elder Scrolls games and just explore the huge world and many side-quests offered, so it's up to you really. It definitely doesn't really have the same feel as the party-based Bioware games you mentioned nor is it as rigid and constricted as Fable; totally different. Based on Morrowind and Oblivion, I highly recommend it.

Don't get me wrong now, I had plenty of fun with 3, but I bought it a year after launch knowing what I'd be getting - an adventure FPS. If I'd pre-ordered it expecting an old-school CRPG only to discover the completely borked RP mechanics, I'd be one of the F3 haters too.
