Based on the updates over the years, the production company had problems with funding the VFX. When you watch it, it looks like 90% of the film is greenscreen. The final product looks like a B-movie, probably to cover up the fact that it was shot in 2002.

Thankfully, Amazon Prime is crazy open to streaming anything under the moon. As long as you’ve got captions and you’re not overtly pornography, Prime will show it!

I’ll get it out of the way and say it’s a bad movie. Weird acting choices, confusing pacing, terrible dialogue, VFX is all over the place, pretty much everything is bad.

With that said, Chrome is pretty great for our community. You’re following a newly made Pleasurebot (fully nude) that tries to escape her owner, gets shot and dies, and then is later repaired and becomes the mythical robot hero Chrome.

And then it gets confusing from there. I guess there’s a robot rebellion and a general is hunting down the robot rebels. The humanoid robot queen escapes while her more mecha lieutenants go on the run and are inevitably captured by the general. A female humanoid robot that tried to escape with two other mechas gets shot by the general - her head explodes and her body falls to the ground (cue weird joke about how she had a migraine). Then Chrome appears and attacks the general and his men.

There are other scenes and characters (the weirdest one being the female human bounty hunter accompanied by her male Pleasurebot - her voice is just bananas) and I think there was a twist at the end, but I was too busy skimming past basically everything not Fembot related.

Worth a watch? Sure! But man, don’t watch for long.

Chrome Episode 1 is without a doubt one of the most bonkers films/episodes of a show I've seen in a long time, and I saw Tyler Perry's: Fall From Grace.

Like Anderson said, the film's storyline is confusing and the dialogue is borderline nonsensical (including a very self-important infodump which takes up the first four minutes or so of screentime explaining everything in a past events sort of way), but where it gets really strange is in the technical details.

The cinematography is insane, and not in the good way. Random jump cuts that last fractions of seconds, zooming in and out like a content ID disguiser with no real discernible rhyme or reason. And the effects, dear god. I can respect when a film tries to be ambitious with a minimal budget, but the use of stock effects plastered haphazardly over obvious post-processing greenscreen backgrounds makes for incoherent backdrops. Of particular note is the scene where Chrome escapes from her owners, which I am not joking here, must be seen to be believed.

That said, I would recommend watching it just to see how weird it is, in a kind of charmingly incompetent way, and of course the fembot content is great, even if the effects are weird.
