ARRRRGGGHHH!!!! Having some laptop trouble....

Post by Teknophile » Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:27 pm

Sorry I haven't been around lately. The port where my AC-to-DC adapter cord plugs into the back of my laptop is having problems. The little pin in the middle snapped off, and now I can't even find it. I've been running around to Best Buy, etc. trying to find someone who can fix it, but at present, my computer is out of commission.

I write to you at the risk of ... well, technically I wouldn't get into too much trouble, but the campus library usually frowns on students using their computers to visit sites like this one.

In short, Super Fembot Cheerleaders from Space! is on hold for the forseeable future, at least until I find someone who can get my laptop working again.

Also, for my IM buddies, I apologize for having dropped off the face of the Earth. I look forward to getting back to my normal routine (or whatever passes for "normal" in my life) as soon as my computer is fixed.

Until then, sorry for my lack of availability, and I look forward to being able to visit fembot Central regularly again.

Targus makes universal laptop adapters with interchangeable plugs. The downsides is that they're expensive (around $100) and some laptops don't like them and will power the laptop but not charge the battery. If you can't find a replacement adapter, buy one as a last resort.

Sounds like the connector on the mobo is broke, and not the power brick, as the bricks are easy to replace. I'd say call HP/Dell/Acer/Whoever and pray they can fix it for cheap as sadly they'd probably replace the entire motherboard, so if you dont have CompleteCare / TotalCare / Accidental Damage Protection, the price may be pretty steep.

Good luck!

You need a backup computer for this very reason. As a student you should be able to cobble one together from parts found discarded in a hallway. You're probably already collecting fembot parts that way so just pick up the computer parts at the same time.

Hope to see you online soon, I have some story ideas I need to run by u.

Awww man, that's sad to hear. I just hope you made backups of your hard drive. Usually they wipe the whole disk when you bring a computer in. Had this happen to me too. I lost about 2 months of work :x
