Left Behind

Post by gynoneko » Wed May 25, 2022 4:15 pm

I know, it's been a LOOONG time since I posted. Sorry about that. I have just been so busy IRL and haven't had the time to sit down and write or draw until recently. Hopefully, this will make up for some of it.
This story is a little darker than most of mine, with scenes of dead bodies and destroyed robots. It also takes a little to get to the steamy sex scenes, but I hope you enjoy it.

Contains: amuptee, mechabare, sex, scenes of death and violence, scenes of destruction and damaged androids

“Blarph!”

The heavy-set man 2 seats down from me evacuated his last meal all over the floor of the small Inn bar. It smelled worse than it looked, and he looked worse than it smelled. I covered my nose and turned away, taking my drink with me as I made some distance between us.

I felt bad for the petite android waitress that had to clean it up. She was clearly more than just a mindless automaton, despite her shiny white plastic exterior, but thanks to the messed-up regional laws, she was indentured to an owner and had no choice in the matter. She went about cleaning the mess while the man ignored her and contemplated if we wanted to finish his glass.

I hadn’t been back in town for more than a day and I was already getting the full whiff of predigested slop and beer. It was a stark reminder of why I left this town the day I was old enough to survive on my own. I had been back several times, but it had been almost 2 years since my last pilgrimage to my hometown. And yet not much changed.

I found a seat at an empty table in the rustic eatery as electronic music blasted from the speakers a little too loud for polite conversation. Seemed strange for a bar of this sort to be attached to a small Inn complete with rooms and a cafe. But that was just how this place was. It had to adapt, and this was how it managed to stay afloat in hard times.

Luckily, I managed to find a seat far away from the stench of the man’s previous meal, sitting alone once again. I didn’t really mind, I had no one to talk to, and didn’t mind the solitude. It had always been this way, except for those short moments of companionship that usually ended in a very satisfied woman. At least, that’s what I told myself.

Zack’s eatery was as authentically western as I was a lady. I assumed Zack was the owner of the bar and the Inn because he stuck his name on everything. His unusual mix of the spaghetti western with the modern punk aesthetic made it a local curiosity. From what I remembered, the place was usually packed back in the day. But that night was an off-day, or maybe business was just down. The cafe portion was closed this late and usually reserved for the guests staying overnight, such as myself. But the only thing people in this town wanted to do at this hour, apparently, was get drunk. There were only a few regulars plus me patronizing his establishment. I didn’t recognize any of them, but it had been far too long since-

“Son of a bitch! I knew I saw you sneak into town!” My eyes darted up to see the short curvy girl with medium blond hair wearing overalls and a pair of goggles. “Ken! You are just the man I wanted to see!”

I raised my eyebrows in suspicion at the pretty girl. She was a sonsy, buxom young woman, full of spunk, with a charming smile. Her green eyes reflected brightly in the dim light as she flashed a smile my way. I couldn’t help but notice her feminine stance, curvy figure, and pale exposed legs sticking out from the short overalls. And then there was her left arm. To a layperson, it would barely draw your attention, but I instantly recognized the sharp lines, the high sheen, and the slightly off-color nature of a mechanical appendage. I couldn’t hide the grin on my face.

“Lizzy! How are ya?”

She took my recognition of her as an invitation to sit down and joined me at the table with a bright smile. The kind of smile I grew suspicious of.

“It’s great to see you, pal! I missed ya!” I guess we were playing this game again.

“What have you been up to?” I wondered.

“Oh, the same old. Exploring, salvaging, trading, protesting. Are you still offering your services as a tech guy?” She asked, looking me up and down.

“Technology specialist. What else would I do?”

“You really make a living going from town to town fixing stuff?” She wondered. She always played it this way. The tomboy in her wouldn’t let her do it any other way.

I gave her a nod as I took a sip of my beer. She watched as I put the drink down and swallowed before answering. “You’d be surprised how well it pays, especially when old tech is involved.”

“Old tech? Eh? Like, the outdated stuff? Ancient stuff?” She asked with a twinkle in her eye.

I narrowed mine and twisted my mouth. “Maybe. 100 years is hardly ancient. Who’s asking?”

“Aww, come on, Ken! It’s me! Your pal! Dizzy Lizzy.” The nickname grew on her when we were kids since she was known to be a clutz. She wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box, but she was good people, and the name stuck with her, for other reasons.

“That’s what I’m afraid of.” Sometimes I wish she’d just cut the bull and get the point. We both knew what she wanted.

“I know, you just got in and I’m already cornering you. That’s not fair. I should buy you a drink, catch up.”

I raised my still mostly full mug. “Already got a drink.”

“Well, I should get you another,” she suggested.

“I’m good. What is this about?” I eyed her suspiciously. If she kept dragging this out I was going to call her on it.

Lizz looked above my head in thought as she shrugged. “It’s nothing, really. Just a job. I really shouldn’t have brought it up. Tell me all about your-”

“What’s the job?” I asked impatiently.

Lizz smiled and sucked her lips in briefly to hold back the inevitable outburst of excitement. “It’s a few hours from here, but you wouldn’t believe what I found!”

She leaned in, excited and bursting with energy. I tried not to look down her shirt, but it was hard when she was practically the poster child of cleavage. I leaned in too.

“I found an old abandoned facility north of here that no one has been in since it shut down.”

“A facility? What kind? And how do you know no one’s been in there?” I questioned.

“I’m not sure, but whatever it was has been setting my scanners off left and right. It’s got some good tech in there, I’m sure of it.” She looked around to make sure no one else was listening in and leaned in even closer. I could smell her perfume at this distance. It was a mix of something sweetly floral with oil and wood. “The security system is still armed and intact. No one even knows this place is there. It’s well hidden.”

“Security system?” I wondered and sat back. “And there it is. The real reason you need me.” It wasn’t the real reason, just a reason. But this is how she wanted to play it.

“Well, yeah. I can’t get in without tripping it. And I don’t want to end up with a laser between my eyes,” she explained, crossing her eyes in the process.

“A laser?”

“I told you, the place is still armed. And whoever built it wasn’t messing around. It has a bite. Already took one guy out who knows how many years ago. Just a skeleton on the ground now. I’m telling you it’s pre-war stuff!”

“And you expect me to risk taking a bullet for you?”

“Ken! You know me! I’d never put your life at risk like that! Besides, it’s a laser. You’ll be fine as long as you can disable the system. And you’re the only guy I know that could.”

I let out a deep sigh and looked at her big pleading eyes. “I’m not in the business of salvaging. I fix things, not break them.”

“Then fix this so it thinks I’m friendly. Please?”

“Why would I do that?” I dismissed. “It’s way too dangerous.”

“Because your oldest bestest friend asked you?” She begged. I rolled my eyes and stood up.

“Good luck.”

“Wait! I’ll pay!” She grabbed my shirt and tugged until I faced her again. I looked down at her, studying her adorable visage, for over a minute. There it was, the point of the issue. The real reason she came to see me.

“Cash?” I asked.

Lizz winced and her grip loosened. “Mmm… Not so much.”

Finally! I knew what she wanted. I thought about it for a moment and shook my head at myself before sitting down again. Lizz’s eyes lit up with energy.

“3 conditions.”

“Anything! Name them!”

“One: Full payment. Upfront.”

“Done.”

“Two: You owe me a favor, big time.”

“Acceptable.”

“Three: I get first dibs on anything I find in there.”

Lizz breathed in sharply as her eyes widened. “Uh… That’s…”

“See you later, Dizzy.” I stood up again, knowing why she was really here and why she wasn’t going to let me walk away. She quickly changed course.

“No! I mean yes! Done! Deal! You get first dibs!”

I sat down again, taking another gulp of beer, and nodded. “Deal.”

“R- Really?” She blurted out with a squeak. “Great!! When can we leave?”

“I just got in. Maybe… 3 da-”

“Tonight??” She interrupted. “Wait, 3 days? I can’t wait that long! It has to be tonight.”

“It is night, Lizz.”

“Hardly,” she scoffed.

“You said yourself the place was a few hours from here,” I pointed out.

“So?”

“I’m not going to go treasure hunting with you before my head can even hit a pillow. Besides, it can be dangerous at night.”

“B- But-” Lizz stammered, looking frantic. “What if someone else finds it!? What if someone beats me there and takes all the good stuff?”

“You don’t even know what’s in there. And it would be safer to do this in the daylight. Besides, if it’s as well hidden as you said, I doubt one more night is going to make a difference.”

“Tomorrow it is then!” She proclaimed.

“Hey, wait a second,” I objected to no avail.

“You said it yourself, one more night. So, we leave tomorrow morning!” She grinned and stood up. “See you bright and early, Ken!”

Lizz turned to leave, but my hand grabbed her wrist faster than she could get away. “Where do you think you’re going?”

She turned back to me, feigning confusion. “Whatever do you mean? I need to get packed.”

“Payment. In full. Upfront.” It’s why she was here. Because she knew I was the best.

Lizz blushed brightly. “I- In f- full? Right here?”

I grinned toothily at her as her face flushed crimson.
