Wow! Thanks for finding this! I've been curious about this story for many years but never could find it in the library. Thanks for the Internet, I guess!

Re: Helen O'Loy from 1938
Good find.
I read this story when I was quite young in a collection called "The science fiction hall of fame".
Reminds of another pulp story I read somewhere around the same time. No idea what it was called but it centered around a guy and his "New wife" "New wife" is submissive and waits on the guy hand and foot. He has a friend who has an "Old wife" She talks too much, has opinions and won't do the dishes....
One day "New wife" begins to act funny. Dropping things, forgetting to make coffee...
The guy packs her up in the car and takes her to a facility that either repairs or recycles wives. An attendant at the place tells him that there is no hope for her.
Guy is very sad.
Ring any bells with anyone?

Don't think that's the story I was thinking of but I'm interested
I have a real soft spot for that old 30s, 40s, and 50s pulp scifi horror and detective stuff since I read so much of it as a kid.
Thanks Dale.
