Under the ancient city of R'yleh... dead C'thulhu lays dreaming... Click

I dunno if that would make a good setting for a story... Lovecraft was sorta out there but it might be interesting to see an AI's take on such illogical circumstances... or at least its view of humans going insane around it.
The other idea might be good though... We've seen a couple of stories about robots handling life without human contact... It would be interesting to see how a robot copes with the lack of support in more detail. How would she handle self-maintainence or repairs... Would she need to seek out a supply of replacement parts or maybe a still-functioning power source so that she can recharge? If she found a non-functioning robot, would she try to repair it or strip out parts that she needs?

I would have to agree that the zombie story would be easier. I just finished "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z" myself and it is a very interesting genre to experiment with. I have a couple ideas rolling around in my head to combine androids and zombies and I think they fit together well. Zombies might not be attracted to androids because they aren’t “alive” or they could be used a anti-zombie warriors since they cannot be infected.
In my first idea I established the theory that the zombification was caused by a release of purpose built nanites. Originally the nanites were created to bring conformism to the world and were designed to take over people's minds to make them follow some radical ideology (doesn't really matter which one). But the bots went rampant and cause massive damage to their targets, creating the typical zombie effect.
Most of the continental earth was quickly overrun by the zombies and the US government withdrew to Hawaii. After a few months things settle down and a league of island nations unite to try to rebuild and retake the planet (Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, etc). Suddenly Honolulu is attacked by a large flight of drone aircraft. What is left of the military repels the attack and traces it back to Seattle.
Fearing that a large scout force would be overwhelmed by the zombie hordes, the military sends a single special forces soldier into the continental US to find the source of the attack and quantify the threat. Once in the states he comes across and repairs a deactivated android (foreign spy, mad scientist’s secret bot, whatever..). He and his new companion now have to discover the mystery behind the attacks.
Another idea is to explore the idea Otaru brought up, of android existence without human contact. Maybe in the near future, humanity faced a massive zombie apocalypse and a group of humans took shelter in a vault/bunker/shelter. They knew they couldn’t keep enough food to stay alive until the zombies were destroyed so they froze themselves like in Aliens. They leave behind a group of caretaker androids who have to fight to keep their humans safe from the zombie hordes. Maybe the vault’s power plant fails and the androids have to venture out among the zombies to find spare parts. Or maybe their job is to scour the countryside to remove the zombies before the humans revive.
Just some ideas I had. Feel free to take whatever you want Kishin. I know I don’t have the time to write up anything proper and I have enough other ideas to keep me very busy if I did get time to write.
