The futuristic police show will partner LAPD officers with "highly evolved human-like androids."

Hey, I know, we've got this neat new gizmo called an android. Why don't we give it a gun and put it in a position of authority? What could go worng?

Why don't you try them out as convenience store clerks, or bank tellers, or lingerie models? It's gotta be a cop?

Couple more shows they forgot: "Total Recall 2070" and the made-for-tv pilot movie "Condor".

HBO will make a show about robots one day and lots of people will watch. Until then, it won't work, because depicting androids without sex is like depicting vampires without superpowers; the drinking blood thing may intrigue people, but it's the mind control-super speed-flying-type stuff that actually excites them enough to keep watching.

So too, viewers will have to be convinced that these machines can be outlets for their most debased fantasies, and then the premise will be accepted and they'll come back next week. It isn't pretty, but it's the truth.

an outlet for my debased fantasies is exactly what I am looking for.

I'm not going to watch a monologue about the ethical and philosophical issues raised.

Why can't it be both? There's plenty of purely mindless porn out there. Why can't there be cerebral porn?

We're talking Hollywood here, Willow - you have to have a cerebellum FIRST before you can have anything "cerebral." :rotfl:

I was hoping for Detroit was well. Of course I expected Detroit 1-8-7 to last longer then it did.

And I'm sure everyone has seen these, on the theme of "at least it's not Detroit"...language NSFW, images fine, no fembot content, but to see the relevance, watch both of them till the end since they're just about a minute each:

Hope you enjoy the humour :)
(oh, and keep in mind I've never visited a town *or* airport in Ohio, so I have no idea if most Ohioans feel this way or whatever....)

All this Detroit-bashing aside, I've got to say, Fedde Le Grand makes a strong case in their favor.

Kelly, repped by Management 360 and CAA, will play Valerie Stahl, a uniformed cop with a strong moral compass who believes the best of people.
Either she's a machine, or her partner is. Their rules, not mine.
If she's human, her partner could be an android of either gender.

Is Stahl,
which is steel auf Deutsch,
a bit too on-the-nose a name to give a robot cop?

Is that strong moral compass a component which may be swapped out or corrupted?
Do strong magnetic fields threaten to undermine her values, like red kryptonite does to Supergirl?

Minka Kelly - even her name has a wind-up doll flavor to it.
min-ka min-ka min-ka min-ka...

To extend the name-hypothesis: Valerie means brave (as in valiant). Brave steel. In Televisionland, cops are brave heroes. In fact, if it were an after-school special, a buddy cop drama involving a robot officer would probably be called "Brave Steel."

You'd think Hollywood was lazy and relied on tropes and established conventions often....

Karl Urban was spotted filming with what looks like a mannequin dressed a police officer.
