Companion (2025)

Post by Anderson88 » Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:40 pm

Just finished watching an advanced screening of the film… and it’s gonna make many folks here really happy.

Spoiler-free, you’re gonna get:
- Plenty of activation / deactivation moments
- Light mechabare, beyond what’s featured in the trailer
- Monotone and regular voices
- Changes in facial expressions from reprogramming
- Some other tropes that I can’t share without spoiling plot elements

Besides all this, it’s a solid film and entertaining to watch. Solid 9/10 in my opinion.

Will also add, I am really digging how the “initial setup” of the companion is shown. There are two scenes of this happening in the film, so you get to enjoy some common tropes in those scenes.

Hoping the usual talent for custom fembot videos gets around to seeing this film. I can see myself pulling bits from the film to use in future commissions.

I noticed it's getting very good reviews. I'm not going to the theater to see it (unless someone around the CT/RI area needs someone to go with lol) but am very much looking forward to streaming it... even if that Jack Quaid guy's face bothers me lol

Glad others plan to watch this. The trailer in my view portrays a modern negative fembot trope. I'll wait for the reviews.

Thanks for the post, Anderson88! I've been hyped for this movie for a few months and I'm glad that, according to you, it has the elements that we're looking for on this board! :applause:
Cheers!

Just saw it... And it deserves all the great reviews it is receiving. The trailers also aren't as spoilery as they seem.

I just watched it and holy shit... Of course I'm not gonna spoil it or anything but I just gotta say that I fucking loved the fembot "Iris". She was just perfect and definitely breaks all the usual tropes for fembots in horror films. I just hope the film performs good enough in the box office so we can get to see more of her in the future.

Gotta hope it gains momentum, it’s likely to make back its budget but not necessarily a slam dunk for a sequel based on early numbers.

And right?! I was fortunately at a screening where the director did a Q&A, wished I asked him if he frequented a certain internet forum for ideas….

Sequels aside, my hope is it'll inspire some...quality content.

It thinks more deeply about AI consciousness/rights tropes than the The Creator did.

Watched it. It is great, really a better ones.

And why one of side characters reminds me of Vito from the Sopranos?

Just saw this yesterday and wanted to point out one subtle things: when Iris is off (or when she's first booting up) her body doesn't move—she does not breathe. It's a nice touch for what is probably a largely unnoticed special-effect. I noticed it most when she finished syncing and began to speak...

Oh, and I had heard from several reviews that they wished they didn't know that Iris was a robot (something blatant in the trailers). I refrained from telling my partner anything about it, and afterward she said she did appreciate not knowing anything going in.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,
