I was waiting for a drink from the coffee stand at the train station, watching the sparrows flutter past, when something occured to me. I like feeding the little birds, sparrows, waxeyes etc, but they're very skittish. Being able to control my motor functions to keep myself still, lowered to no human scent... would make bird-watching or even animal observation in general a lot easier. Being more resistant to damage, immune to malaria, tse-tse flies, snake bites, also incredibly useful.

So for idle thoughts, what else could a fembot put her upgraded nature to use doing?

I think you need to look at the inherent superior qualities of a fembot and then the jobs/activities fall from there. For instance precision, durability, endurance, etc.

So under precision, I would imagine a fembot could make good money painting custom murals in people's homes. Who wants a plain tan wall when you can have an intricate design, traced with incredible precision, in record time?

For endurance, you have a variety of retail or service positions where being on your feet and staying on top of things would have an advantage.

And for durability I've always liked the idea of a fembot zombie killing machine. The world has ended, the dead walk everywhere and somewhere in the ruins is a beautiful fembot. She's covered in makeshift armor with maybe a little damage and a trail of thousands of still zombie bodies behind her. Maybe she's protecting her Master or in search of a new one.

Build just a little wooden shelter in the middle of any ecological site with a lot of spare solar panels,
refit some confiscated robo-hoes and you got some nice rangers ready to make regular scouting
while also eager to carry laborious biological research and animal breeding programs.
add some extra secret directives in auto pilot and they'll never know why suddenly all the ilegal wood cutters are nowhere to be found.

A lot of the medical industry would love precise, accurate workers, for example surgeons, nurses etc, who could work extremely long shifts when required. Secretaries could probably make a good role for a fembot too.

Oh, and call centre work, they could save the sanity of a few humans on both ends of the calls! And I should know...

I like this thread. I've often thought of fembots moonlighting as mannequins in store windows due to their ability to stand perfectly still. Could be a lucrative career path for future automatons!

The number of careers that could use the benefits of traditional robotic capabilities are so numerous as to be legion, but that said, for fembots specifically?

I honestly think that one of the best things about being a fembot is the reprogramming aspect. There's a dark side to reprogramming, sure, but the nice part of it is that you could pretty much have yourself reprogrammed to enjoy any career you put yourself in. Perhaps this is just me as a college student speaking, but it would be pretty sweet to be able to apply the full force of your enthusiasm to any task, even menial ones. I mean, could you imagine what you could get done if you could be made to -enjoy- housecleaning?

To continue with the programming aspect- acting. You wouldn't have to research the details to method act, you could just download straight into your brain.

Another thought- actual robots would make Disney World a lot more fun. The characters wouldn't have to take as many breaks from the heat, and maybe you could have a Rapunzel with actual glowing hair!

Oddly enough, not many. I'm pretty sure the only bona-fide Disney Princess that's been rendered in Audio-Animatronics is Ariel from the Little Mermaid, at Disneyland Resort -- rather an ironic choice considering how well robots usually get along with water. In any case, she's sculpted in the overly cartoony fashion from the film.

There's also a movie ride with Mary Poppins and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, at Disney-MGM Studios, which are probably their most realistic "fembots" to date.

Well, now we might have to make the distinction between "fur" and "face" characters, since I assume you're referring to meet and greets. Face characters are actual talking people for the human or humanoid characters, such as the princesses, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, and more. "Fur" characters are the full suits with over-sized heads, often referred to as "fur" as most depict animals, though a few human characters (such as many of the Pixar characters or the villains) are also done this way. And the parks are making changes to "fur" with some interesting new technology. Take a look.

As far as what princesses have been depicted as audio animatronics, at least in Disney World, you have Ariel (the new Little Mermaid ride), Wendy (Peter Pan's Flight), Alice (brief cameo on It's a Small World), and Snow White (the now-defunct Snow White's Scary Adventures and presumably the forthcoming Seven Dwarfs Mine Train). Hopefully, Disney can get animatronics to the point where meet-and-greets are animatronics, thus eliminating the need for people to have to wear stifling costumes in stupidly-intense heat. And if they can break the Uncanny Valley ceiling and make them look approachable, then that'll be extra awesome.

And yes, a Rapunzell with glowing hair would be pretty epic.

Anyways, sorry for me derailing the thread: as the topic originally suggested, there are some rather intriguing uses for robotic capabilities listed here, all of which provide some pretty damn good story ideas for me---especially the theme park one, which I may very well adapt as part of my own series.
