if i where a domestic robot designer i would add an easy to spot and punch turn off button for human security and issac asimov and the robohaters probably would praise that,
should Androids have an EmergeNcy shut down button?

They absolutely should have an emergency shut down button, but it shouldn't be so easy to push that it will be hit by accident. Even when computers freeze you have to sometimes hold the button down for a few seconds so that it will turn off. Also, as with current computers, the button is flush with the chassis or even a little recessed and concave so that is must be pushed into the chassis. In other words, there should be some difficulty.
In a story I wrote, I placed the button at the small of the back just above the buttocks so that even a belt would cover it. Also, this is a spot where there is a natural surface under the skin that could support it. Another good place is above the breast bone. All these things would give a robot enough time to respond if it was attacked or approached by a thief. At the same rate, I don't think the robot should be aware of this vulnerability but, especially if she's female, would know that is not an area that is touched by anyone but its master. There is another spot where I would place the button, but I'm keeping that one to myself

Yeah...button holding sounds logical
the idea of the "remote" for the administrator is ok, but the situation may require an emergency turn off button in the robot even if it leave it exposed "for all the kind of stuff people like to write here".
military robots obviously won't have them...or would they?
all toyota cars opened with the same key.

I guess that makes more sense, but what if the robot goes killroid and you dont have enough fire?...well... nothing is perfect.
it could be behind an ear too.

If you haven't seen or read Chobits, you should. The main character, Chii, is a robot that is unique in many ways, one of which being that her on/off switch is located in her vagina, and not her ear like normal robots. In the end, it causes a lot of strife for the main character, because it ends up whenever she gets turned off, she forgets everything. So he has to vow to never turn her off... hence... he can never get it on (at least not in *that* holeYosuke wrote:Maybe a insert instead.

It was actually a fun anime, and a good manga. Just cause it didn't have sex in it didn't make it bad... it did have slightly naughty moments in it. But it was intended for a young adult audience, and they can't have explicit stuff in it.--Battery-- wrote:i guess that makes that anime even worst...such a missed chance..gynoneko wrote:If you haven't seen or read Chobits, you should.
